IAN MACMILLAN
An award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer with a broad and diverse resume.
As a filmmaker Macmillan’s worked has screened at numerous film festivals and his documentary WITHIN SIGHT OF SHORE has been broadcast multiple times as an episode of CBC’s Land & Sea and won a 2012 East Coast Music Award for Best DVD. Ian makes up half of the director-duo PILA that has garnered recognition for their music videos, including Video of the Week on Musique Plus for the video for ST. ANGE’s song MTL.
As a cinematographer, Macmillan’s photographic eye has been trusted to deliver several different stylistic approaches. His portfolio includes three feature films (STITCHES 2009 Rosie Award Nominee. Best Feature, I HEART DOOMSDAY Winner – Royal Reel Award for Best Canadian Feature. 2010 Canada Film Festival, Winner – Most Kick Ass Film. Seattle True Independent Film Festival, Winner – 3rd Prize for Feature Film. Winner – Most Innovative Film. Buffalo/Niagara Film Festival, 2010 Fantasia Film Festival and the recently completed, CAFÉ CAFÉ), more than two dozen music videos (Karl Wolf, Les Joualliers, Plants & Animals, Thee Silver Mount Zion, Hugo Lapointe, ANGO & Final Flash), several commercials (Skittles, Lotto Quebec, Aquafresh, Sportchek, HeavyMTL) and has had work screened at such international festivals as Cannes, Raindance, Fantasia, Montreal World Film Festival, Festival de Nouveau Cinema, Vienna Film Festival and the Atlantic Film Festival. He also photographed and edited the hit web series, THE BITTER END.
Macmillan also has significant documentary and lifestyle television experience. In addition to lending his eye to several independant documentary shorts and features,he has photographed doc and lifestyle series for FOOD Network, TVO, YTV, BRAVO, Travel Television, CBC and is an experienced news cameraman.
Ian has a growing body of work in Stereographic 3D and designed the popular iPhone application 3D ST, a pocket calculator for 3D cinematography.
